Richard J. Maxwell was born in Delaware on April 17, 1931. His family moved to the Chicago area when he was 14. He met his future wife, Flo (Florence (nee Green)) when he was 16 and they married in 1951. He joined the army and served in the Korean War. Upon returning he began working at Libby’s. He started out in the mail room but upon retirement he was the corporate payroll manager.
Dick and Flo raised their family in Harvey and belonged to the First United Methodist Church there. After his beloved Flo passed away he eventually wedded Fairy (nee Manning) and they were married for 22 years.
He enjoyed a good joke, a glass of scotch or a beer, and was a HUGE White Sox fan. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed family history. Dick’s faith was very important to him. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church where he was active in Veterans’ Voices.
Dick passes away on December 22, 2025 at the age of 94.
